Rider University invites applications for the Director, Student Accessibility & Support Services. The Director provides oversight to the office of Student Accessibility and Support Services (SASS) which works to ensure access for every student (undergraduate and graduate) with a disability by removing barriers in design, promoting disability as an aspect of diversity, and creating a campus where access and inclusion are seamless. The Director will assist and advise the University in all aspects of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (as amended), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Fair Housing Act, and applicable state laws.
Specifically, the individual will be responsible for:
- developing and maintaining policy and procedures related to providing student accommodations and a variety of accessibility services in support of students with disabilities;
- overseeing the evaluation process to determine if documentation indicates that a condition qualifies as a disability under applicable disability law and coordinating with appropriate offices to determine reasonable accommodations;
- coordinating disability-related services with existing support programs and other offices;
- creating a collaborative relationship with faculty and staff which includes mediating conversations regarding academic accommodations between students and faculty;
- working cooperatively with non-academic offices on campus to provide accommodations and support services beyond academic adjustments, including environmental adaptations and technological and/or auxiliary aides;
- staying current with legal and technological advances related to accessibility support;
- working collaboratively to track progress, trends, and use of services as well as recommendations for future initiatives;
- participating in campus-wide committees as assigned or appropriate; and
- conducting educational professional development and awareness experiences for the campus.
Position Requirements
- Master’s degree in special education or special education administration, school psychology, rehabilitation counseling, higher education, or a related field.
- Five years of experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting.
- Experience interpreting psycho-educational evaluations and other disability documentation, determining eligibility for disability services, evaluating the needs of students with disabilities, providing reasonable accommodations, and familiarity with assistive technologies for students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated administrative/supervisory experience.
- Satisfactory background and/or DMV checks required.
Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience
- Doctorate preferred.
- Five years of experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting.
